In February 2021, the EA Board of Trustees formed its official Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, composed of 11 individuals who represent parents, faculty, administration, trustees, and Alumni of Color Council members.
COMMITMENT 1
Amend the bylaws of The Episcopal Academy to add a standing Board Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Episcopal’s growth in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is among the highest priorities for both the immediate and long term health of the school, and the Board of Trustees has embraced its duty to dedicate attention and resources to this work. A standing board committee will work with the head of school and administration, providing governance and strategic partnership, and ensuring accountability for action and ongoing measurement of progress. The committee and administration will track processes and outcomes, both in the areas described in this document and in work defined in the years ahead.
Though management and day-to-day operations are the purview of the head of school and administration, the committee will evaluate the myriad strategic goals and opportunities in DEI. These include shaping schoolwide priorities, reviewing Episcopal’s mission statement, planning training for board members, measuring progress, and more.
