Women's History Month 2026

Every March, EA celebrates Women's History Month by reflecting on the contributions of women to U.S. history, culture, and society. The 2026 theme is "Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future." Join the celebration by checking out this list of upcoming virtual and in-person events curated by EA's Office of DEI.

Women's History Month Programming at Betsy Ross House (March 1-31)

Celebrate Women's History Month at the Betsy Ross House with special events, free with admission, all month long! 

  • Meet the Women of the Betsy Ross House — Meet Betsy Ross at two different stages of her life, along with Hannah Lithgow and Betsy Ashburn. (Sunday, March 22, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
  • Storytelling Saturdays — Award-winning Once Upon A Nation Storytellers shed light on women's contributions to our nation's history that our history books missed. (Saturdays in March, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
  • History Maker Sundays — In honor of Women's History Month, meet women from history including businesswomen, abolitionists, and suffragists. (Sundays in March, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
     
Fierce: Women of West Chester Walking Tour (March 21 & 28)

Join the Chester County History Center and uncover the stories of the amazing women of West Chester who made great contributions to the law, abolition, suffrage, education, politics, and science during this 1.5-hour walking tour through downtown West Chester. During the tour, you will have an opportunity to visit homes and businesses of the women who shaped West Chester from colonial times to the present. 

Stories of Science: Celebrating Women's History at Science History Institute (March 1-31)

Each Saturday in March, the Science History Institute features a different scientist or theme with activities that spotlight influential female scientists. These days will also feature themed "drop-in" tours. 

  • Stories of Science: Celebrating Women's History — Explore the cutting-edge world of super suits from Lycra to Kevlar, which were invented by renowned chemist Stephanie Kwolek. (March 7)
  • Women in Chemistry Tour — This tour highlights the central role of women in shaping chemistry and material sciences throughout history. (March 7 & 21)
  • Stories of Science: Celebrating Women's History — Enjoy interactive activities while learning about important women food scientists and chefs from the past who continue to influence what we eat today. (March 14)
  • Stories of Science: Celebrating Women's History — Engage in the work of three influential women scientists who transformed their respective fields of study: Rachel Carson, Fannie Farmer, and Frances Glessner Lee. (March 28)
     
Women's History Month at Free Library of Philadelphia  (March 1-31)

The Free Library of Philadelphia is offering a plethora of programming to celebrate Women's History Month, including author discussions, educational talks, film screenings, and more, including:

  • Joe Lex: All Bones Considered — Author discussion at Wynnefield Library that teaches about the legacy of the women who helped make Philadelphia so historical and have been memorialized in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. (March 3, 5 p.m.)
  • Pennsylvania Women and Their Fight for the Vote — Parkway Central Library will host a screening of the documentary "Finding Justice," followed by a Q&A with Amanda Owen, the filmmaker and executive director of the Justice Bell Foundation. (March 26)
