National Rankings, State Records, & Undefeated Seasons Mark the Spring Mid-Season
The spring athletic season is whizzing by as teams and student-athletes set personal and school records, earn national rankings, and tally multiple wins.
At the midpoint, EA baseball sits at 12-5 (3-2 in league) after a decisive 10-6 win over The Haverford School on Tuesday, April 21 and The Westtown School (4-3) on Wednesday. Other key victories include Malvern Prep (4-1) and The Perkiomen School (6-3), out of league. "We had a successful annual trip to Florida over spring break, going 4-1," said Coach Tom Grandieri. "Key offensive contributors so far include Michael Schaffer '28 (.457, 21 hits, 1 HR,15 RBI) and Spencer Schuh '26 (.350, 14 hits, 13 RBI, 12SB)." On the mound, Michael Schaffer, Hunter West '27, and Roman Notaro '26 have shouldered a bulk of the load, combining to throw a total of 49 innings. "Roman has been particularly impressive, stabilizing the late innings with a .894 ERA, 15K, and only four walks," shared Coach Grandieri. "We look to continue success on the mound and at the plate as league and non-league play carries on through May."
The girls' golf team is tied for first in the league at 2-2. Inter-Ac play began on Monday, April 13, with a win for EA 215, AIS 228, and Notre Dame 230. On Tuesday, April 14, the girls played past The Baldwin School, with a score of 227. "We have two league tournaments left. Julia Griffin '28, Marietta Hartmann '27, and Hadley Stetson '27 are poised to qualify for Inter-Ac champs," said Coach Bert Howlin, Hon., "While CJ Nichols '27 and Muriel Fitz-Kaltemeier '27 are on the bubble and with two competitions remaining, it is quite likely that we will have five qualifiers." The top scores to date are Julia Griffin (39) and Marietta Hartmann (41). Lila Hannon '28 and Molly Ercole '28 are having a strong debut on Varsity. On Monday, April 20, the squad ended the day in third (248). Highlights of the match included birdies by Muriel and CJ. The final Inter-Ac match of the season is on Monday, April 27.
Boys' lacrosse sits at 9-4, with a highlight 10-9 victory against top-ranked Lawrenceville School in March. The team has consistently remained ranked in the national top 20 rankings. The squad has also tallied wins against St. Augustine Regional School (8-5), Gill St. Bernard's School (14-3), Georgetown Prep (1205), and The Perkiomen School (14-8). In league play, the boys played past Penn Charter (15-4), GA (19-7), and SCH (11-7). Looking ahead, the team is focusing on rematches against rivals Malvern Prep and Haverford. Senior Parker Smith scored his 100th goal in the Penn Charter game. "The seniors have continued to lead the way throughout the season," said Coach Steve Colfer. "Jakson Orcutt, Keegan Nash, and Parker Smith have led the offense while David Brickman, Greysen Stanley, and Torey Cooper have led the defensive side of the ball. We are poised for the second half of the Inter-Ac league schedule, which begins Friday, April 24, versus Penn Charter."
With big wins in April over The Agnes Irwin School (13-9) and Notre Dame (11-9), girls' lacrosse is playing fast and strong. "It was a great example of this group’s ability to settle in, stay composed, and play together through pressure moments," explained Coach Josie Tomaino. The squad opened the season with a challenging road trip, earning wins against John Carroll (MD) and Cardinal Gibbons (NC), which helped set the tone. "League play tested us early, with key wins over Germantown Academy (12-4), Notre Dame (10-8), and a hard-fought 7-6 win over Penn Charter." Senior leadership has played a significant role in the team's success. "Sofia Gagliardi and Caroline Johnston have been outstanding in the midfield, making key plays on both ends of the field. Caitlin McCarthy has anchored our defense with consistency and leadership, while Fallon Crowther has been phenomenal in goal. Nora Bailer has continued to shine on the draw and has been a force on the offensive end," said Coach Tomaino. "We’ve also had key contributions from younger players, Maeve Irish '28 and midfielder Maya Le '27, emerging as major impact players this season." There is much more play ahead with out-of-state matchups against IMG (FL) and Summit High School (NJ). " These games will continue to test our consistency and growth," remarked Coach Tomaino. Girls' lacrosse is 11-2 overall, 6-0 in league play, and ranked #7 by USA Lacrosse.

"Offensively, the team has been productive from top to bottom, consistently putting up double-digit hits and scoring 10-plus runs in several games," said Coach Bernadette Moran. "Sophia Santinelli '26 has been on fire, leading the charge with power and consistency, while Eva Stafiniak '29 and Dominique Barrist '27 have been major forces in the middle of the order."
