Sportsmanship During EA/Haverford/AIS Weekend 2025

Dear Families,

As members of the Inter-Academic League, we have inherited a wonderful tradition which we carry on through collaboration in athletics. Every Inter-Ac school strives for excellence in its athletics programs. Competition fosters respect for others, teamwork, and leadership in both victory and defeat. As EA/Haverford/AIS Weekend—one of the greatest traditions of the Inter-Ac—approaches, we prepare for the excitement and camaraderie of the contests and also reiterate our expectations for sportsmanship among our student-athletes, coaches, spectators, and families.

Last year, student leaders and athletes representing The Episcopal Academy, The Agnes Irwin School, and The Haverford School came together to discuss the principles of sportsmanship in the Inter-Ac League Constitution and at our rivalry weekend events. Each school adopted shared standards relating to respect for each other, sportsmanship during the contests and on social media, and exhibiting gratitude for the opportunity to compete in these storied rivalries. Further, each school agreed that spectators, athletes, and coaches shall conduct themselves as positive role models and represent their schools in a manner that demonstrates the principles of sportsmanship and community.

Many of the concerns involving improper and disrespectful spectator behavior in youth sports can be exacerbated by the consumption of alcohol prior to and during contests. As such, we remind our fans that the Inter-Ac schools never permit alcohol to be served before or during a contest. This includes, but is not limited to, tailgating.

Thank you for your support of the Inter-Ac League's expectation for sportsmanship, of our athletes, and our schools. We look forward to the healthy competition and school spirit that will be on full display on Nov. 7 and 8.
