Lunar New Year Opportunities 2025

Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among the Asian diaspora including Singaporean, Vietnamese and Chinese communities, among others. The diverse customs of Lunar New Year include feasting, exchanging gifts, lighting exquisite lanterns, and making offerings to gods and ancestors.

Lunar New Year Crafternoon at Ludington Library (Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) — Celebrate the Year of the Snake by making fun Lunar New Year crafts at your own pace in the the Ludington Jr. Room. All ages welcome; younger children may need assistance with projects. details

Lunar New Year Celebration at Main Line Art Center (Saturday, Jan. 25, 12-2 p.m.) — Join the Main Line Art Center for a Lunar New Year celebration and usher in the year of the Snake! Enjoy hands-on art activities for all ages, a performance of the iconic Lion Dance by the Philadelphia Suns and a martial arts demonstration by Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy of Philadelphia. CultureFest! Lunar New Year Celebration at Penn Museum (Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) — Ring in the Year of the Snake by bringing the whole family together to experience vibrant traditions during this full day celebration. Some of the events include: storytelling, art making, live music and dance performances. Included with Museum admission. details

Lunar New Year Celebration at Dilworth Park (Saturday, Feb. 1, 5-7 p.m.) — Temple University is proud to support this year’s Lunar New Year celebration with calligraphy activities, Year of the Snake crafts, and performances by the Chinese opera, Kun-Yang/Lin Dance, and Philadelphia Suns. details

Lunar New Year Celebration at Franklin Square (Saturday, Feb. 1, 5-7 p.m.) — Ring in the Lunar New Year with Philadelphia Suns Lion Dancers, crafts for children with the Asian Arts Initiative, red envelope surprise giveaways, and a free dumpling workshop with Michael Chow from Sang Kee. details

Lunar New Year Family Festival at Philadelphia Museum of Art (Sunday, Feb. 9, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.) — Ring in the Year of the Snake at the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Festivities include a magical dim sum party with local artist Madeleine Conover, a pop-up gallery activity where participants can act out the origins of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac in an interactive storytime, and a Snake Den floor maze to twist and slither your way around before coiling up with a book. details and tickets
