Diver & Swimmer Joy Ying '25 is Main Line Athlete of the Week

In an arena where student-athletes lean toward specific events, senior Joy Ying competes in both diving and the backstroke on EA's swimming and diving team. She has been named Main Line Athlete of the Week.

"I have been working on increasing my dive list difficulty and learning a few newer dives like inward double or front 2.5 pike," explained Joy. "I’m also trying to focus on what swim events I could possibly do, and what event could help the team out the most at Easterns, where I have to coordinate between diving and swimming because they are at different places."

“Joy is an invaluable person on our team; able to score points on and off the boards," shared Coach Brian Kline, Hon.

"What helps me to succeed in these meets is reminding myself that I am doing this not just to show myself what I’m capable of, but also that I’m diving and swimming for my team which puts me in a better headspace," reflected Joy.

Joy is a three-sport athlete, also running on the cross country team in the fall and competing on the spring track and field team. She also enjoys the drumline club and is active with EA's Asian American Student Union (AASU). Read more about Joy's favorite dives, her pre-meet preparation, and her favorite class.
