The boys' and girls' track and field teams left their mark at this year's Delco Champs meet.
The EA boys won their third consecutive championship with 95 points, followed by Upper Darby High School (81) and Strath Haven (71.5). The EA girls placed fifth (56) out of 19 schools.
"It was a competitive day at Delcos, and we were so happy to see some big PRs from our team. Those personal accomplishments helped fuel the team to the overall victory," reflected Boys' Varsity Coach Zach Richards, Hon. "It was a tight race all day up until the last event."
Senior jumper Yaya Johnson got things started on Thursday, April 30, with a monumental effort in the Triple Jump as he set a new Delaware County record (50 ft. 4.75 inches). The previous record (50 ft 2.75 inches) stood for 50 years. Yaya's record is the #5 all-time in Pennsylvania and top 10 in the United States.
"This is step one in achieving our spring team goal, and we now turn our attention to Inter-Acs," said Coach Richards. "The league championship will be held at our home track this year, and we're looking forward to defending our title again!"
