All-American Honors, Records, & Smiles as Track & Field Teams Compete in National Meets
It was a record-setting weekend for EA track and field as the boys' and girls' teams traveled to New York and Boston to compete in indoor national championship meets.
On Friday, March 14, at Nike Indoor Nationals at The Armory in New York, Kendra Williamson '27 ran to 9th place in the Championship 2 Mile with a school record time of 10:24.00. She is currently #1 in Pennsylvania and #18 in the country.
The Sprint Medley Relay powered through to an impressive 6th place finish and earned All-American honors. Stevie Combs '25 ran the lead-off leg, followed by Ryann Newcomb '26, Morgan Lohr 26, and Ava Cavanaugh '27. The relay set a school record with a time of 4:08.49. This marks the first indoor running event for EA girls to achieve All-American status.
"From the start of the season back in December the team made a commitment to work hard and fight for one another on the track," said Coach Eric Mundy. "When you take every workout, every lift, every warm-up, every race, and add up all those moments of effort, they can turn into something spectacular, and that's what happened this year!"
After competing in New York, Ava and Kendra headed to Boston to compete in New Balance Indoor Nationals on Saturday, March 15th.
Ava ran the open 800m Championship race and set a new indoor PR and school record with a time of 2:14.56.
"This was the largest stage our runners raced on this season," said Coach Mundy. "After huge performances at states, it's very difficult to come back two weeks later and peek again. But that's what they did!"
Senior Yaya Johnson jumped to third place in the High Jump with another record-breaking effort. 6'10.25 is a school record for Yaya and earned him All-American honors.
