Inspired by Romans 12:2, members of the Vestry, as well as the Lower and Middle School Chapel Councils, selected Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind as the Chapel theme for the 2023-24 school year.
"After thoughtful deliberation, conversation, and discernment, our students came to a consensus for next year’s Chapel theme, which originates in Chapter 12 of Paul’s letter to the Romans," explained Chaplain Tim Gavin, Hon. "The context of the citation is as follows: Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect."
"When we realize how transactional our culture has become, how social media has disconnected us from one another, and how the idealization of individualism has become rampant in our society, we can grasp how this theme will relate to our core values," shared Father Tim. "It will also help us articulate our mission to live lives of purpose, faith, and integrity. As a school grounded in the Anglican ethos and the Episcopal identity of belonging, we are called to run counter to our culture in so many ways. Therefore, if we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds, then we can be virtuous rather than seeming to be virtuous."
