Wednesday, January 15 - A Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.

Students celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr. through the meaning and significance of the Hymn, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," led by Aiden Chavis '21, Bryce Cooper '22, and Madi Belo '21.

Friday, January 17 - The values of a Spritual and Contemplative Life with Sister Cathy Nerney

Sister Cathy Nerney, SSJ spoke to students about the values of a Spiritual and Contemplative Life. Sister Cathy is a professor of Theology at Chestnut Hill College and is a member of the Religion Order the Sister of Saint Joseph.

Tuesday, January 14 - The Festival of Kwanzaa

On Tuesday, Director of Diversity and Community Life Ayinde Tate, gave a presentation on the festival of Kwanzaa. Mr. Tate recalled celebrating Kwanzaa every year when he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. He explained how Dr. Maulana Karenga founded Kwanzaa to celebrate African heritage. Mr. Tate spoke about the major principles of Kwanzaa: Unity; Collective Work; Self-Determination; Cooperative Economics; Purpose; Creativity; and Faith. He also explained how this celebration brought his community together.

Thursday, January 16 - Finding A Place in Our Community

On Thursday, with the help of several Middle School students, Rev. Bert Zug, Hon. put together a giant three dimensional puzzle to illustrate how we all have a place in our community. He talked about how each piece displayed different characteristics, yet when they were joined together they created an integrated whole. Rev. Zug stressed the fact that even though each of us has different strengths and weaknesses, we each have value, and we all contribute something important to our community.
