Reporting Procedures Streamlined

The procedures for reporting incidents of discrimination or harassment have been streamlined to better serve our school community.

The new procedures and policies will be added to each division's handbook prior to the 2021-22 academic year. The text includes definitions for terms like harassment, discrimination, and intolerance; the school's responses to infractions; and the reporting methods below:

Excerpt: Reporting

Students and parents should report incidences of harassment, discrimination, or intolerance to a trusted member of Episcopal's faculty or staff. The following guidance is provided to offer clarity about to whom these incidences could be reported, but the most important thing is that they are reported:

  • In the Lower School, students or parents who witness or learn of harassment, discrimination, or intolerance typically report it to their homeroom teacher first. If their preference or the circumstances require, they may also report such incidents to a specialist teacher; school psychologist; Lower School Chaplain; Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; or Division Head.
  • In the Middle School, students or parents who witness or learn of harassment, discrimination, or intolerance can report it to their advisor or grade level dean. If their preference or the circumstances require, they may also report such incidents to a classroom teacher; coach; school psychologist; Middle School Chaplain; Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Assistant Head of Middle School; or Head of Middle School.
  • In the Upper School, students or parents who witness or learn of harassment, discrimination, or intolerance can report it to their advisor or grade level dean. If their preference or the circumstances require, they may also report such incidents to a classroom teacher; coach; school psychologist; Upper School Chaplain; Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; or Head of Upper School.
  • In the event that a student prefers to make a report anonymously, Episopal students have access to Pennsylvania's Safe2Say Something system. This app can be used to report anonymously incidents of harassment, discrimination, or intolerance.

In addition to being included in the student handbooks, the updated procedures will be shared and discussed with faculty, students, and parents in September 2021.
