Peter Lim '21 Breaks 47-Year Old EA Pole Vault Record

Junior Peter Lim has set a new record in the pole vault.

At the Ocean Breeze track and field competition on Saturday, Jan. 25, Peter soared to 14-feet. "The jump was my third attempt on a pole I haven't used before, so I was pretty nervous," explained Peter. "I was mainly focused on making sure I did everything I've been practicing rather than the actual height itself."

The 14-foot vault broke the EA pole vault record (13' 6") that was set 47-years ago by Mark Lefevre '72. "I was really excited to clear 14-feet in a meet after training for a long time." Peter tied the school record last spring.

"I started pole vaulting when I first joined the track team to try something new," said Peter. "But the best part about vaulting is definitely the community, which is super supportive and helpful even in the competitive meets." Peter also plays on the squash team.

"I'd like to thank my coaches and teammates, but especially Mr. John Binstock, my wood shop teacher, who went out of his way to help me improve." Peter placed second at the Ocean Breeze meet.

The first pole vault record was set at EA in 1893. R.H. Large jumped 8' 10".
