Following an extensive, national search, Dr. T.J. Locke, Head of School, recently announced that Ms. Imana Legette will serve as EA's Head of Middle School beginning in the 2018-19 school year.
A warm and nurturing educator, Ms. Legette loves to work with middle school students and teachers. She impressed EA's search committee with her thoughtful ideas and observations about all that makes the middle school years a unique period in a young person's life. A curious learner and passionate community member, Ms. Legette loves finding ways to engage with the wide range of programs that make up the life of an active, vibrant school.
Since 2013, Ms. Legette has served as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at William Penn Charter School. She is an avid presenter and industry thought leader who has served on many educational and youth-focused boards throughout her career. Those who work daily with Ms. Legette describe her as a dynamic, hardworking, intelligent, growth-minded educator with a great sense of humor.
"I have had the privilege of working with Ms. Legette several times on regional programs during my time at EA and have continually been impressed by her leadership, professionalism, and collaborative approach," shared Dr. Locke. "I am confident she will have an incredible impact on our middle school students, and I am excited for her to join our community."
Prior to her move to Philadelphia, Ms. Legette spent over a decade at Charlotte Country Day School, where she served as the Educational Technology Director and taught 5th - 8th grade math, social studies, and technology classes. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Education and earned a Master's in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University.
"I was drawn to EA's commitment to put students at the center of all decisions while also nurturing their spiritual growth and development," said Ms. Legette. "I am looking forward to joining a community that is committed to providing middle school students a safe, caring and supportive environment. It will be exciting getting to know many of the students and families over the next few months!"
Ms. Legette will take over the Head of Middle School position from Mr. Steve Morris, who announced in the fall his decision to return to teaching full-time. Ms. Legette will begin at EA on July 1, 2018.
