Orchestra Director James Finegan Performs with the Philly Pops

Middle and Upper School Orchestra Director, and violinist, James Finegan recently performed with the Philly Pops in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center.

"I was asked by the conductor with the Philly Pops," explained Mr. Finegan. "I usually play there a few times a year."

Vocalist Leslie Odom, Jr. was featured as part of the Philly Pops 40th Anniversary Celebration held September 28 - September 30. "We performed a few songs from Hamilton, along with some jazz and songs from Broadway. It was a very eclectic program," said Mr. Finegan.

Grammy and Tony Award Winner Leslie Odom played the original role of Aaron Burr in Hamilton.

"It was fantastic. He was incredibly nice and generous with his time, in addition to being a phenomenal performer," said Mr. Finegan. "This was a homecoming show for him. He usually does not do multiple nights on his tour, but he made an exception for Philadelphia. Also, he and I both grew up in the East Oak Lane section on Philadelphia, so it was nice to have that connection."

Sixth grade student Elle du Pont attended the Saturday, September 29 performance.

Next on the calendar for Mr. Finegan is the Pennsylvania Ballet's production of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. He is playing in eight performances starting on Thursday, Oct. 11.
