EA girls' water polo has won the Eastern Prep Water Polo Tournament for the second consecutive year.
"I am incredibly proud of the success this team has had this season, and it is a direct reflection of their ability to trust in each other and believe in themselves," said Varsity Coach Maddi Moore '10.
The team beat The Hill School (16-9) to move on to the championship round on Sunday, Nov. 3.
In the win over Hill, highlights included: Katie Brian '22 (27 saves, 1 steal), Jovana Sekulic '22 (5 goals, 1 shot block, 6 steals, 2 kick outs drawn, 2 swim offs won), Alex Swanepoel (3 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 kick outs drawn), Gracie Sheehan '23 (3 goals, 1 steal), and Abby Bonner '22 (2 goals, 1 kick out drawn).
In the championship game, EA dominated The Lawrenceville School, winning 16-8. "My strategy going into the weekend was the same as it's been this second half of the season: play strong and smart defensively, and communicate well in order to execute offensively," explained Coach Moore.
Notable players included: Katie Brian (21 saves), Jovana Sekulic (13 goals, 2 steals, 3 kick outs drawn, 2 swim offs won), Alex Swanepoel (2 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals), and Abby Bonner (1 goal, 3 assists, 4 steals).
"EA has never won Easterns in a year that ends in an odd number," said Coach Moore. "So going into this weekend I told the girls we would break the even year streak."
This year's tournament was held Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at EA.
"This young group of girls works hard in practice, but also have a ton of fun doing so. The team's ability to stay upbeat is a testament to the fantastic group of young women that I'm fortunate to coach!" said Coach Moore.
