Gina Buggy Inducted into National Coaches Hall of Fame

Athletic Director Gina Buggy, Hon. was recently inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Coach Buggy's career has spanned forty years. She started coaching during her summers while a student-athlete (field hockey and lacrosse) at Ursinus College. After playing on the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team and winning a bronze medal, Coach Buggy launched her full-time coaching career. She worked on the collegiate level (Harvard University) and at The Agnes Irwin School before joining Episcopal Academy in 1986 as head field hockey coach.

Coach Buggy was appointed Athletic Director at EA in 1993. Her field hockey teams have won 12 Inter-Ac titles and three PAISAA Championships. Her EA coaching career record is 442-92-9.

"I think it's really hard to coach at any level if you don't have a genuine passion for what you are doing," said Buggy. "You coach because of the joy you get from being around young people."

During her tenure, many of Coach Buggy's players have continued to play at top Division I and Division III schools. Former player and current assistant varsity field hockey coach Amanda Vos Strache '99 says, "Exponentially, Gina has impacted thousands."

The induction ceremony took place Thursday, January 5 at the NFHCA's Awards Dinner in Naples, Florida.
