The fall Domino Club production Inherit the Wind and spring musical Grease have been selected for four theater awards.
At the Philadelphia Independence Awards, held on Monday, May 21, the cast for Grease won Best Small Ensemble/The T-Birds, Best Dance Ensemble/The T-Birds, and Best Song/Greased Lightning.
"We were able to see firsthand the huge level of talent at some of our peer schools and greater Philadelphia public schools. It was an honor to be nominated among them," said Theater and Dance Department Chair Dan Clay. "I am very proud of the Grease cast and crew, especially the T-Birds. They worked together and they worked hard. We've never had so many talented male singers, dancers, and actors."
The T-Bird cast includes: Jacob Viscusi, Dominic Minicozzi, Alex Oliva, Jack Franklin, Josh Wang, Chris Smith, Nicholas Bernabei, Matthew Repke, Patrick Zhang, Will Hopkins, and McKee Bond.
"There were only 16 males in a cast of 60 students this year. My hope is that winning these awards will help bring more males into the program," said Mr. Clay.
Some cast members performed You're the One That I Want at the Monday awards event. "It was clear that the audience enjoyed our performance. I am very grateful to those cast members who put in the extra time and energy to rehearse and perform so successfully at the Independence Awards. I am very proud of all of them!" said Mr. Clay.
On Sunday, May 20 at the Greater Philadelphia Area Cappies Gala, Cerena Robertson '19 won Best Featured Actress for her role as the Reverend Jeremiah Brown in the fall production of Inherit the Wind.
"I am so happy that Cerena received this acknowledgement," said Mr. Clay. "I am stunned by her growth as a singer, actor, dancer, and visual artist since her 9th grade year. This is a student of tremendous talent!"
