Boys' Golf Wraps Up with Blue/White Ryder Cup

The finals of the Boys' Golf team's Blue/White Ryder Cup wrapped up with a dramatic finish on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Going into the finals, "The Cup was tied at 6.5 going into our six singles matches each worth a point," explained Boys' Varsity Golf Coach Doug Borgerson. "The final grouping featured the two captains, Auggie Reilly '21 and Giles Elliot '21, playing against each other along with two 1st Team All-League performers."

Game 5 found Jack Yearley '23 (White) versus Shane Lawler '21 (Blue). "Once again both boys held a lead at one point and both shot around par," explained Coach Borgerson. "Jack ended up driving the 8th green to make birdie to take the lead for good, winning 2 & 1."

Going into the final match, the score remained tied, 9-9.

Each of the captains came ready to battle- Auggie (White) and Giles (Blue). "Auggie was in his classic 'Bobby Jones' button down look. Giles came ready to go low and at one point was three under for his round," said Coach Borgerson. "There wasn't much that Auggie could do with the barrage of birdies from Giles."

The final for the championship round was Blue 10, White 9.

During the Blue/White Ryder Cup, the team played at Paxon Hollow Golf Club, Valley View Golf, Merion West and also played some mini-golf to more garner points.

"There was plenty of good golf and tons of improvement since the beginning of the season," said Coach Borgerson. "Congrats to all the EA golfers for contributing to such a wonderful experience the last few weeks."
