Annual Heroes vs. Cancer 5K Planned for Saturday, June 23

The Second Annual Heroes vs. Cancer 5K will be held at The Episcopal Academy on Saturday, June 23.

Last year, more than 70 runners participated in the 5K race and raised $5,000. "We are hoping to get over 100 runners this year," said Lower School teacher Heather Van Thuyne. Ms. Van Thuyne and her husband are helping to organize the event and are involved with the Coaches vs. Cancer School and Youth Initiative.

The race begins at 8:00 a.m. Registration opens at 7:15 a.m.

All of the proceeds will go directly to the Coaches vs. Cancer program of The American Cancer Society. The goal is to celebrate survivors, remember and honor those lost, and fight back so that no one loses another family member, friend, or loved one to this disease.

The Philadelphia Coaches vs. Cancer School and Youth Initiative is a program designed to encourage student-athletes, coaches, fans, parents, athletic directors, and local communities to make an impact in the fight against cancer. Any community member or business is encouraged to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
