Class of 2022 Celebrated at 237th Commencement

The Episcopal Academy graduated 132 seniors at its 237th Commencement exercises on Thursday, June 9. The ceremony took place in the Class of 1944 Chapel.

Students were recognized for their accomplishments and congratulated by Greville Haslam Head of School Dr. T.J. Locke; Father Tim Gavin, Head Chaplain; The Rt. Reverend Daniel G.P. Gutierrez; Mr. Mike Letts, Head of Upper School; and Mr. Sam Willis, Form Dean. This year's student speakers were valedictorian Cecilia Murphy and salutatorian Myles Davis.

"We talk about the magic and the power of the opportunity to come to school every day with people you 'learn with' and people you 'learn from,'" said Dr. Locke. "This applies to both your fellow classmates and your teachers. You learn from and with everyone. The opportunity to have conversations and special moments with your teachers makes this school a unique place. I know I can speak on behalf of our faculty that we learn with and from you each and every day."

"Episcopal inspires its boys and girls to lead lives of purpose, faith, and integrity," reflected Murphy. "Although graduation is a bittersweet time, as we leave behind a place that has become our home and people that have become our family, we are well prepared to carve our own paths forward. Whether we direct, motivate, create, or teach, we will become leaders in our own right, able to inspire and empathize with those around us."

"Episcopal's culture has helped us become better students, better athletes, and most importantly, better people," shared Davis. "Through our faculty's passion to support us, aligned with our focused commitment to excel in mind, body, and spirit, our culture has been nurtured each and every day."

"And this year, as you might imagine, the dad in me is even more aware of the personal impact. I know I speak for the parents and loved ones in the audience when I share how thankful I am to the teachers for their personal care, their high expectations, and their love," shared Dr. Locke. "And I thank all of you, the seniors, for making these memories we will all cherish forever. I am so proud of you and grateful for who you are. Congratulations and please keep in touch. We miss you already."
