Welcome to Upper School!

We are Alexis and Ashley Lowber, and we will take turns guiding you through Upper School. In Upper School, students experience growth while challenging themselves to reach for higher success. It is a demanding and a rewarding experience that empowers students to branch out, and discover new interests. Students have the freedom to select courses that fit their interests, and this responsibility prepares us for independence after graduation.

Community Service

Ashley: There are many ways in which EA students give back to the community. Aside from Community Service trips, I’ve explored my passion for singing through performing at nursing homes with choirs. I think community service is significant because it allows me to make a contribution toward bettering the lives of other people. I enjoy the combination of doing things I'm passionate about while helping others.

Chapel

Alexis: In the Upper School, we attend Chapel every other day. Chapel is a great time to focus on achieving a greater sense of community with the other members of EA. We have the privilege of being able to hear talented speakers from inside and outside of the EA community. I have been entertained by Chapel skits, motivated by speakers, and even blown away by some of the eye-opening speeches.

Classes

Ashley: There is an abundance of courses and extracurricular activities from which EA students choose. For many, multiple interests require time management, which students can learn from advisors, deans, and counselors. This year, my classes include AP Biology, Honors Latin 4, Honors Spanish 4, Foundations of Art, Honors American Literature, Honors Pre-Calculus AB, and U.S. History.

Student Support & College Counseling

Alexis: There is a dedicated period during the school day for student support. Additionally, teachers take time out of their schedules to meet with their students during their free time, whether it’s early in the morning before schools starts, during free periods, at lunch, or in the end of the day. Our College Counseling Office navigates the college admission process to prepare us for life after graduation.

Lunch

Alexis: As an Upper School student, lunch is a very busy part of the day. During lunch, people eat and talk to their friends, go to clubs, attend meetings with teachers, or do school work. In one week of school, I usually find myself doing all of the above. At the end of lunch, I frequently go out to the Campus Green to relax with my friends.

2:05 p.m.

Technology

Ashley: Technology was a significant factor in why I chose to attend EA. Students and teachers make great use of EA's advanced technology, including the laptops assigned to each student and the campus's 3D printers. Not only do these resources assist with mandatory research assignments, but they also encourage us to experiment with our creativity by making use of different computer programs and technology. There is also a host of technology courses available for students who want to go deeper.

3 p.m.

Athletics

Alexis: Sports start at 3:45 every day. Students can also use this time to participate in a play or musical. EA's athletics program is very important because, not only does it allow students to take a break from schoolwork to focus on their sport, but it also gives athletes a sense of determination to make themselves better.

Arts /Drama

Ashley: EA offers a variety of options when it comes to the arts. I have been in choir ever since I began attending EA, and I was in the select choir group in Middle School and freshman year of Upper School. I also did multiple plays and musicals from 6th-8th grade, and I have chosen to take visual arts next year within the Foundations of Art class.
