Athletic Accolades

During the fall, winter, and spring seasons, EA teams consistently rank at the top of both the Inter-Ac League and non-league competition, earning multiple invitational, league, and state-level titles. Recent highlights include:

• In spring 2025 alone, seven teams won Inter-Ac Championships, two teams tallied undefeated seasons, six EA student-athletes were named league MVPs, and three coaches were selected Coach of the Year.
• In the 2023-24 school year, EA teams tallied nine Inter-Ac championships, seven state titles, and six MVPs. 
• Sports like girls’ tennis, boys’ track & field, girls’ lacrosse, and girls’ golf earned repeat Inter-Ac titles and took home PAISAA wins.

Every year, our talented student-athletes achieve great things. Here are only a few highlights from the last school year alone: 

Inter-Ac League Athletic Director Award Winners:

• Carter Yearley: Four-time Inter-Ac League champion in tennis and girls' golf. All-League in tennis for three years and in golf for all four years. Undefeated in league matches over her career in both sports. 
• Yaya Johnson: All-League, All-Delco, All-State, and All-American. Key member of our county, league and state championship track teams with many accolades.

Sportsmanship Cup WINNERS:

• Evan McFarland: All-League in soccer and lacrosse (League MVP), Lacrosse All-American, and Delco Player of the Year
• Quinn Whitaker: All-League in soccer and lacrosse (League MVP), Lacrosse All-American, and Delco Player of the Year

EA’s coaching staff sets the standard—not only for their expertise, but for their deep commitment to students. Of EA’s 31 varsity coaches, 28 also serve as faculty or staff, mentoring students in the classroom as well as on the field. Sixteen have led EA teams for over a decade, building a culture of consistency, trust, and long-term growth.

Leaders in their fields, EA coaches earn regional, state, and national recognition while guiding teams to championships and athletes to their full potential. A few of these include:

• Steve Colfer (Boys’ Lacrosse): National Champion, USILA Coach of the Year, and Eastern PA Hall of Fame inductee
• Jim Farrell (Boys' Cross Country): Seven-time league champion coach, EA Athletic Hall of Fame member
• Andy Fraggos (Girls’ Soccer): Inter-Ac and PAISAA titles; nationally licensed USSF coach
• Demer Holleran (Girls' Squash): Past Women’s US National Team Coach; Nine-time US Squash National Singles Champion
• Brian Kline (Swimming & Diving):  Inter-Ac and Eastern Prep Swimming Championship titles
• Molly Konopka (Crew): 2025 Michael F. Mayock Distinguished Teacher Coach Award; Joseph F. Brennan Memorial Coach’s Award
• Whit Powell (Girls’ Tennis): 20+ Inter-Ac titles, 2024 PAISAA champion, and USTA Coach of the Year
• Zach Richards (Boys' Track & Field): Three-time Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Coach of the Year 
• Josie Tomaino (Girls’ Lacrosse): Multi-time league and state champion; Philly Lacrosse Coach of the Year (2025) and US Lacrosse Coach of the Year (2019, 2015)

EA is just the beginning.

Each year, roughly 30% of EA seniors continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, competing in top conferences like the Ivy League, ACC, Big Ten, and more. Supported by EA’s personalized college counseling program—known for its low caseloads and deep NCAA expertise—student-athletes receive tailored guidance as they navigate recruitment and eligibility.

That strong foundation extends well beyond college. EA alumni have earned All-American honors, captained Division I, II, and III teams, and competed for national titles. Many have gone on to play professionally, including NBA veterans Wayne Ellington ’06 and Gerald Henderson ’06, Super Bowl winner Kyle Eckel ’99, MLB player Mark Washington ’14, and Major League Soccer standouts Matt Freese ’17 (New York City FC) and AJ Marcucci ’17 (New York Red Bulls). 

EA’s Olympic tradition also continues, with four alumni qualifying for the 2024 Paris Games—including Nick Mead ’13, who rowed for Team USA in two Olympics, winning gold in 2024 and serving as flag bearer at the Olympics Closing Ceremony.
