EA is committed to enrolling a diverse student body from varying economic backgrounds.

EA awards more than $10 million annually in need-based financial aid. Award amounts offered to applicants each year are based on need in addition to total funds available and the number of accepted applicants who have demonstrated financial need. While EA does not currently offer merit-based aid or athletic scholarships, we strive to meet 100% of a family’s demonstrated need each year.

Financial need is determined by your financial aid application within Clarity, a platform that EA uses to help inform its financial aid award decisions. Through Clarity, you will answer a variety of questions in addition to allowing the IRS to provide EA with your 1040 Federal Tax return and W-2. Based on your responses, additional documents may be required for manual upload.

Application Process

New Families

A financial aid application should be submitted in parallel to completion of the admission application.

Create a Clarity account: Once you apply for financial aid, you will be able to log into the system using the same credentials each application year.
Complete financial aid application: Complete the application within Clarity, and authorize the platform to send information to The Episcopal Academy for the Academic Year 2026-2027 no earlier than Sept. 1, 2025, and no later than Dec. 1, 2025. A $65 application fee will apply. In select cases, a Clarity fee waiver may be available.
Financial aid application review: Episcopal Academy’s Financial Aid Committee reviews each financial aid application and determines if an award can be made, based on financial need and in concert with the financial aid budget.
Financial aid award notification: Families that apply for financial aid are notified of the award decision with a student’s acceptance to EA. Once notified, we request that families maintain confidentiality about any financial aid award amount received. Discussing award decisions and amounts with others can compromise the integrity of the financial aid program and may place a family’s assistance at risk.

Log into or create your Clarity account: Use your existing credentials to log into your Clarity account. If you are a current EA family but new to applying for financial aid, create a new Clarity account.

Financial Aid FAQ

I am a single parent who shares custody of my child. What can I expect during the financial aid application process?
For parents who share custody and are separated, divorced, or have never been married, a Clarity application, including tax documentation, from each parent is required.

I am a single parent who is solely responsible financially for my child. What can I expect during the financial aid application process?
Single parents who have no contact with and receive no financial support from the applicant’s other biological parent should indicate so on their financial aid application. Households in which this is applicable will be required to complete this form. Applicants are welcome to contact Director of Financial Aid Jennifer Natale (jnatale@episcopalacademy.org) to talk through their individual circumstance.

Do I need to reapply for financial aid every year for my returning student?
Yes. All current families must reapply for financial aid each year, using Clarity, to ensure EA receives updated financial information to affirm their level of financial need for the next academic year. Returning families who receive financial aid will not be able to re-enroll a returning student without first completing the financial aid application through Clarity.

I have a returning student but have never applied for financial aid. What can I expect during the financial aid process?
We understand that household circumstances can change. Current families who intend to apply for financial aid must follow the deadlines noted in order to be considered. Late applications are considered on a rolling basis and only if funds remain available.

What happens if I submit a financial aid application after the deadline?
Should a financial aid application be received for a new student after Dec. 1, 2025 for the 2026-27 academic year, it will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Awards will be based on funds available at the time the review takes place.

When are tuition amounts determined at EA?
In accordance with its annual budget process, EA generally updates its tuition amounts each December for the next academic year.

What is covered by EA within what we pay for tuition?
In Lower School (PreK-5), all supplies as well as an annual trip are covered. 5th graders are also provided with a MacBook under EA’s 1:1 device policy. In Middle School (6th-8th grades), an annual trip is covered and students receive a MacBook under EA’s 1:1 device policy. In Upper School (9th-12th grades), students are provided with a MacBook under EA’s 1:1 device policy.

What can I expect to pay at EA beyond the tuition cost?
Families can expect to pay fees throughout the year beyond tuition. Some of these additional expenses include uniforms (all grades), books for Middle School and Upper School students, lunch fee for Middle School and Upper School students, athletic equipment, select trips and transportation for competitions and athletics, and AP exam fees for Upper School students. Estimated, additional costs are as follows:

Upper School: $2,500 (dependent on student trips selected and sports played)
Middle School: $2,200

Does EA offer any additional financial support for non-tuition expenses?
Yes. Some financial aid applicants will also qualify for support with non-tuition expenses like books and lunch. Applicants who qualify will be notified directly about any non-tuition expenses that will be covered as part of the total financial aid award package.

Does EA offer payment plans?
Yes. A variety of payment plans are available to families enrolling their students at EA. Current options include: one payment, two payments, 10 payments, and 12 payments.

Does EA offer tuition refund insurance?
Yes. During the enrollment and re-enrollment processes, families have the option to purchase tuition refund insurance. More information about this offering can be found here.

Using Clarity

How do I sign up to use Clarity?
Register for your account on the Clarity website. This reference guide and Tips to Success document are also great resources as you get started.

How long does it take to complete a financial aid application using Clarity?
With the proper documents and information handy, the Clarity application should take 45-60 minutes to complete. Answering all questions to the best of your ability will help the Financial Aid Committee to make the most informed award decision for your student(s).

Do other independent schools use Clarity?
Yes. Clarity is used by more than 1,000 independent schools across the country. Many independent schools in the Greater Philadelphia areas also use Clarity as a financial aid platform.

Is Clarity safe to use? Who has access to my information?
Clarity is compliant with SOC2 Type 2 audits and has hundreds of controls and processes in place to ensure that it meets the highest data security and data privacy standards. Your information is available only to the EA Financial Aid Committee.

How do I contact Clarity if I run into problems with the application?
For assistance in English and Spanish, reach out to Clarity at 206-210-3752 or by emailing support@clarityapp.com. After you begin the application process, in-app support is also available by using the site’s Help button.
