Lower School

Joyful learning that sets the foundation for a lifetime of discovery.

EA Lower School is a vibrant, nurturing place where purposeful play and creativity go hand in hand with foundational skill-building and timeless values. Rooted in the traditions of a liberal arts education—and energized by innovation—our program inspires curiosity, builds character, and instills a lifelong love of learning.

In small classes led by expert teachers who truly understand and embrace each stage of childhood, students are known, challenged, and celebrated. Here, children don’t just learn—they become part of something lasting, growing into confident learners ready to shape the future.

Robust programming for every learner.

STEM, Spanish, service, and so much more. From our expansive Specials program that starts in PreK to year-long Social Studies projects that inspire children to explore their place in the world around them, EA's Lower School curriculum invites our youngest learners into a world of discovery.

Explore curriculum

Character first.

EA’s 10 core values, called The Stripes, are as intricately woven into the curriculum as they are the sleeves of the student sweater. Paired with our inclusive Chapel program and service opportunities, The Stripes help develop character and guide decision-making.

Room to grow.

Our state-of-the-art campus, including an expanded PreK suite and brand-new playground, gives students the physical space to play and explore. A robust network of student support empowers children to be their best selves.

Thoughtfully-integrated technology.

Led by EA’s full-time tech coaches, EA’s 1:1 program provides intentional technological integration while avoiding unnecessary screen time.

Meet Dr. Terry Malone, Head of Lower School

A Philadelphia native, Head of Lower School Dr. Terrance Malone came to Episcopal in 2014 after serving as Lower School Director for The Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati, OH.

When asked why he loves leading EA’s Lower School, Dr. Malone’s answer is simple: “The kids!” He believes in giving every child the support and attention to shine, and credits his lifelong love of teaching with his passion for education.
