EA’s College Counseling Office views the college admission journey as an exciting time of exploration and self-discovery in which students find a breadth of school options that best fit their individual strengths, needs, and aspirations.

With a student-to-counselor ratio of only 20:1, our team of college counselors work in close collaboration with students and families, providing individual counsel, programs throughout the year, a vast library of resources, and, most importantly, a deep, shared pool of knowledge.

When a family begins the college admission journey at EA, they benefit not only from their individual counselor’s expertise, but also by the College Counseling team’s shared decades of admission experience in top universities and independent schools.

Our counselors are true leaders in their field who continually stay on top of the rapidly changing college admission landscape. In addition to participating in and leading professional development at the local and national levels, our team visits nearly 100 college campuses each year to build relationships with admission teams and gather information to benefit students.

This expertise allows counselors to guide students with great depth as they explore colleges, majors, and pathways.

Individual Counseling

College counselors serve as trusted guides for both students and families, offering support at every stage of the college admission journey - both individually and as a team.

Every EA student is assigned a dedicated counselor who will work with them one-on-one to navigate their individual journey and meet their unique goals through senior year. With low caseloads, EA counselors have ample time to truly get to know their students and provide customized support, from assisting with building college lists to brainstorming majors that fit their passions and essays that tell their story.

Any Question, Any Counselor, Any Time.

With the College Counseling Office’s open door policy, any Upper Schooler can stop by to ask any questions of any counselor. Additionally, the full college counseling team collaborates behind the scenes to support each student, from reviewing student essays to providing their personal insights on the many nuances of the college admission process.

Programs and Resources

At EA, individual counseling is only the beginning. Our team provides students and families with a wealth of programs and resources to help navigate the admission process.

Programs that Inspire.

EA College Counseling hosts a wide variety of on-campus and virtual programs throughout the year, from the Road to College event series that navigates specific aspects of the college admissions process to the three-day College Essay Camp for rising seniors. EA also welcomes deans and admission directors from highly selective institutions to present to families and students.

During the school day, juniors and seniors attend college counseling classes once per rotation to learn about the process and get hands-on help. At these classes, the full team of counselors is present to answer questions and provide support.

Resources to Stay Informed.

Parents may also receive on-demand insights through EA College Counseling’s comprehensive library of downloadable resources. Created by our expert team of counselors, these resources break down complex admission concepts into manageable, bite-sized pieces.

Resources are often shared in the monthly college counseling newsletter, which contains grade-specific information, a calendar of upcoming events and deadlines, and high-level insights about the college admission process.

College Visits

EA hosts college admission representatives from more than 100 college admission officers each fall. On these visits, admissions officers speak with students for 20-40 minutes during the school day and meet with the college counseling team.

These visits provide students with the opportunity to make a good impression on the admission officer who may later read their file, as well as show demonstrated interest in the schools of their choice.

Within the past few years, EA students have spoken with admission officers from a range of schools including St. Andrews, College of Charleston, the University of Chicago, Pitt, University of Toronto, William and Mary, and more during these visits.
