Creating a Culture of Inquiry
June 12, 9:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Part of the Excellence in Teaching Series; $125 per workshop or $325 for all three workshops.
Session Leaders: TeachThought / Drew Perkins
Teachers will engage in multiple inquiry strategies like the Question Formulation Technique, The 5 Whys, Making Meaning Protocol, Driving Question/Need To Know/Learn list and others.
This workshop is designed to help identify the how and why of a culture of inquiry by engaging teachers in what we call Rich Inquiry on topics that they might find controversial or be passionate about.
Knowledge is an indicator of educational success, not the aim. How might we shift our practice in ways that build deep content understanding by pulling thinking and learning from students not push it at them? By the end of the session, the group will have developed questions for further exploration toward creating a culture of inquiry.
Through this workshop, participants will:
- Develop an inquiry mindset.
- Explore how they can create success for students with an inquiry based approach.
- Develop a plan to implement inquiry into their classes for the upcoming school year.
- Learn to assist students in discovery and conceptualization of content.
