At The Episcopal Academy, we welcome everyone to our family table with fresh, homemade food sourced from local, organic ingredients whenever possible. That is why we work with our very own, in-house, family-owned dining services team that has nourished our community for generations.
We believe that nurturing Mind, Body, and Spirit begins by providing our students a wide variety of healthy options that fit all dietary needs. Choices range from specialty DIY food stations and weekly panini specials to homemade soups and healthy snacks.
Our healthy eating initiative, Eat Right, Check the Light, helps students make smart lunch choices.
Modeled after the familiar traffic light system, it features color coding to identify the healthiness of foods a child may wish to purchase:
- Green (Go): an item that is a healthy option which can be eaten regularly.
- Yellow (Slow): an item to consume in moderation
- Red (Whoa): an item to consume as a special treat occasionally
The Eat Right, Check the Light system begins in Lower School, where teachers guide students to make healthy choices, and helpful stickers and signage throughout the dining hall help reinforce the message. The system is carried through to Middle and Upper School, where it is featured on weekly menus.

Paper or Styrofoam to-go containers are no longer used. Instead, reusable to-go containers made from recycled plastic are available for purchase for $8 in the Dining Halls. These hinged containers are dishwasher safe and may be purchased at any register.
On the 22nd of each month, Middle and Upper Schoolers participate in Trayless 22, when the Tierney Dining Hall goes trayless to conserve water and energy.
