Thai recognized as a Rising Star

Episcopal Academy senior Anthony Thai was one of two Philadelphia-area high school seniors surprised with a $5,000 Sun Life Rising Star scholarship on October 23.
Thai certainly fits the bill of a rising star.
Recently recognized as one of EA’s 10 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, Thai is a member of Episcopal Academy's student council, writes for the school newspaper, participates in Key Club as a school host and is a two-sport high school athlete.
In addition to his extracurricular activities at Episcopal, Thai volunteers as a student tutor in the Steppingstone Scholars program, was accepted into the Global Youth Leadership Institute to participate in a leadership program and is a member of the Model United Nations.
“What a joy it has been to have Anthony with us at Episcopal,” said Hamilton Clark, Episcopal Academy’s Greville Haslam Head of School. “He is a top scholar, an outstanding citizen, and a wonderful representative of the Steppingstone Scholars program that brings us so many talented students.”
Philadelphia 76ers second-year forward Lavoy Allen helped Sun Life Financial regional sales manager Robert Pyskadlo and Sun Life voluntary practice leader Dave Sherman surprise Thai and Samuel Fels High School senior Saaiba Newton with their scholarships at a special presentation at City Hall in Philadelphia.
In addition to the two student winners, Sun Life Financial also awarded $50,000 grants to two local youth-oriented community organizations, the aforementioned Steppingstone Scholars program as well as the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) on Oct. 23.
