Head Rowing Coach Molly Konopka Receives Brennan Coach's Award

Episcopal Academy Head Rowing Coach Molly Konopka, Hon. is this year's recipient of the Joseph F. Brennan Memorial Coach's Award.

Coach Konopka received the award during a ceremony on Saturday, May 20 at the Stotesbury Regatta.

"I was terribly honored to be presented with such a prestigious award," said Mrs. Konopka. "To be on a trophy with the likes of Coach Stan Bergman of the University of Pennsylvania, Jim Barker from The Haverford School, and Phil Roach of Father Judge High School is overwhelming. I am humbled to be viewed in their company."

The trophy is a lifetime achievement award that honors Joseph F. Brennan, a longtime oarsman and coach. The award was created to honor coaches in the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association, and the Schuylkill River rowing community, who have dedicated themselves to the sport of rowing.

The winner is chosen by former coaches and officials in the Schuylkill Navy Community.

Coach Konopka is the eighth recipient of the award and the second woman to be honored. Her name will be inscribed on the trophy which will reside at The Episcopal Academy for the next year.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Molly and the entire Episcopal Academy rowing program. The selection committee could not have chosen a more deserving recipient. Molly's contributions to the sport of rowing extend well beyond our EA community, and we are proud of her outreach," says Athletic Director Gina Buggy, Hon.
