Girls Water Polo Wins Eastern Prep Water Polo Championship

The Varsity Girls' Water Polo team (19-1) won the Eastern Prep School Water Polo Championship with a 21-13 win over The Hill School in Sunday's final.

Senior Maddie O'Reilly was named tournament MVP. Maddie holds EA's all-time scoring record with 509 goals.

"This is a very special group of girls and we are proud of our numerous accomplishments this season," said coach Alicia Newman. "Three months ago we set our goal to work hard every day and to reach our full potential as a team. This past Sunday, we achieved our goal. This team has left its mark as the most successful water polo team in the history of Episcopal Academy."

The team started off strong during pre-season play in Florida with four wins. They placed fifth in the first flight of the Beast of the East Tournament in September.

"The team has had a great season," said Athletic Director Gina Buggy. "It was terrific to see them in action and close out their season on such a high note."

The team has been led by a strong group of upperclassman, including co-captains Maddie O'Reilly '17 and Heidi Zirnkilton '17.

The Eastern Prep School Water Polo Championship took place on November 6 at Episcopal's Burke Natatorium.
