Elodie Furey '17 Named Inter-Ac MVP for Girls' Basketball

Senior co-captain Elodie Furey has been selected as the Inter-Ac MVP for girls' basketball.

Elodie was a four-year starter, averaging ten points a game this season. She is EA's all-time leading rebounder and is a two-time First Team All Inter-Ac player.

"She earned the respect of the league through her defensive stability, her rebounding, and her shot-blocking ability," said Varsity Head Coach Chuck Simmonds. "This year she really became a more well-rounded offensive force through her assists and her ball-handling ability. I am thrilled to see her recognized as Inter-Ac MVP."

"This season was about the best I could have asked for in my senior year," shared Elodie. "We had setbacks and the outcome of the game didn't always go our way, but our team never stopped working as hard as we could and we had a great time doing it."

The girls' team won the Inter-Ac. They lost in double overtime in the PAISAA Tournament. "Winning the Inter-Ac was our main goal from the start of the season. It was an amazing feeling to accomplish that especially since it's the first time in school history both boys' and girls' basketball have won in the same year."

I was especially proud of the growth of this group," said Coach Simmonds. "Having everyone buying into playing for each other helped the players become great teammates as well as better athletes. We were able to become a better defensive team, which we needed to win the games that helped us clinch the Inter-Ac Championship."

"I have to thank my coaches for putting me in a position to succeed and my teammates, especially those who don't get the most playing time, for always going hard in practice and pushing me to improve," said Elodie.

Elodie plans to continue her basketball career at Cornell University.
