Demer Holleran, one of the most accomplished female players in U.S. Squash history, is joining the Episcopal Academy community as the new Director of Squash.
"Squash is my life passion. It will be great to be involved with squash in a wonderful community like this," said Demer. "So much of my life has been around schools that have really strong values. Episcopal is a natural fit."
During her career, Demer has won a combined 34 national championships, including three intercollegiate national championships at Princeton University. She coached the University of Pennsylvania women's team to its first National Championship (2000) in school history. Other highlights include:
- US National Women's Singles Champion – 10 years /1989-1999
- US National Doubles Championships – 11 years /1994-2004
- Five World Women's Doubles Championships/One World Mixed Doubles Championship
- U.S. Women's National Team coach - four years
- Recipient of multiple sportsmanship awards
"One of my goals is to generate excitement, activity, and buzz to invigorate and grow what we have at EA," shared Demer. "Some people see me as an elite player and as a result, an elite coach, but I don't feel that way. I really value squash at any level. I see it as a lifetime mission."
"We are thrilled that Demer will be joining our EA squash program," said Athletic Director Gina Buggy, Hon. "Her personal success on the court and knack for coaching and developing players to their full potential will be a tremendous asset."
"I think once you are a coach, it's something you really miss. You can impart a lot of values and growth to players and really be a positive influence in their lives. I have definitely missed that while I have taken a break from coaching," shared Demer.
"EA squash has produced incredible results over the decades. We look forward to Demer mentoring and coaching our student-athletes as EA squash enters a new era," said Coach Buggy.
"I always try and meet people where they are and try to get 10% more from them," remarked Demer. "If I can get more out of each player than they naturally bring, that goes a long way."
Demer Holleran is the founder of Fairmount Athletic Club and has worked as a squash recruiting consultant. She is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University, where she was a three-sport athlete.
Demer has two daughters Emery-11, and Elsa-9.
