For Session Five:
-Go to and save on your drive as a bookmark C.B. Putnam FL Teaching Using Internet Resources Home Page. We will use this site throughout this session.
The Internet is an ideal medium for Professional Growth. All teachers, and teachers of Foreign Language in particular, can join Internet Discussion groups on key topics and can form email connections with colleagues beyond the classroom. On-Line courses such as this one can be of great service, in ways that we are just beginning to explore. For teachers of Foreign Languages Internet databases and sites serve an additional purpose as a direct means of enhancing one's Communicative, Cultural and Linguistic Competency.
Goal 1: to enhance familiarity with the Language and Cultures of the Foreign Language(s) we teach.
--go to Putnam's Newspapers and Press for your FL and set up an appropriate plan to keep yourself knowledgeable about current events in your FL. Consider creating a Focus group with others in your FL to share questions, issues and insights from your on-line press sources. Decide your areas of interest and identify where do you feel underprepared. Build a set of bookmarks to advance your personal Independent Study to enhance your comfort and competence in your FL. Separately, you and others might agree to extend your focus sometimes to include pedagogy: to using these same interesting sites as content for your classes. However, the focus in on you and giving yourself special time for your own self-advancement. Keep notes on areas of personal interest to you and pass them on to me and to others. From my experience, we must add databases on the Internet to serve our range of specific needs, so your ideas and suggestions are important.
-go to Literature and Social Science databases to research areas of personal interest to you. Note what is helpful and share additional kinds of resources you would like to have on-line.
-go to Putnam's Language Learning Activities and note what is helpful and lacking.
-continue through each section of the Putnam site, noting the useful and any omissions. Share with your group and with others moi! compris.
Goal 2: Design FL Class Projects that draw on two or more disciplines:
As part of our Proposed Year-long Exchange,we have agreed to the regular use of email exchanges and the creation of an Internet Class Web Page. I personally cannot think of a better stage for class efforts and accomplishments!
As we consider a focused Web Page intended for our FL speakers living throughout the world, it becomes clear to me that we need challenging and enjoyable projects and activities. Here are worthwhile activities for your consideration and adaptation:
-Go to Putnam's Food, Literature and Art Projects for projects to put on an exchange Web Page.
Math and French:
-go to Maths Amusantes for a choice of Math problems and answers to post for students everywhere.
Under construction. Mes excuses!
