There are two ways to search the Internet for sites related to your topic. You may use a search engine or a subject directory.

Use a search engine:

  • When you have a narrow or obscure topic or idea to research
  • When you are looking for a specific site
  • When you want to retrieve a large number of hits on your topic

Use a subject directory:

  • When you have a broad topic or idea to research
  • When you want to see a list of sites on your topic often recommended by experts
  • When you want to avoid viewing low-content documents that often turn up on search engines

For both methods, make a list of words related to your topic title. Plan on using the words in different groupings to compare your result findings.

We recommend using Google as a search engine.

We recommend using WebFeet and Yahoo as a subject directories and search engines.
