What is plagarism? Plagarism is when someone includes other people's creative work in a work of their own without stating where the information came from. It is against copyright law and will result in disciplinary actions in school environments. The best way to avoid plagarism is to paraphase or summarize. In other words, do not copy directly from a source. Put ideas into your own words. Note, you are still required to give credit for the "idea" you are paraphasing to the original author. To give credit you may use an in-text citation format, as well as create a works cited document at the end of your research paper. Another way to avoid plagiarism is to put quotation marks around information that you want to include in your paper exactly as it is shown in your resource. Use an in-text citation format to give credit. Click HERE to access a list of Fair Use Policies and Guidlines established by our government to help students use other people's creative work fairly.
