An encyclopedia is a collection of articles organized in alphabetical order by a topic title. There are often many volumes within an encyclopedia set, including an index volume.

There are general encyclopedias in which a great variety of topics are covered from biographical information on important people to country and state information. There are specialized encyclopedias that are devoted to a specific topic and subjects within that topic.

Always use the index in the last volume of the encyclopedia set to look up a topic by keyword.
