Publications that are printed frequently are called periodicals. Many popular periodicals print articles in which the information is of current interest, though some periodicals specialize in publishing information about the past which might include new discoveries as well. Magazines, journals and newspapers are periodicals. Magazines are periodicals that publish articles about a veriety of popular subjects. They often contain stories, pictures and other features as well. Journals are peiodicals in which the articles are about less popular, but specific, subjects, and the authors of the articles may be professionals in their fields of study. Newspapers are published daily and weekly and carry articles about current events. Reporters write articles in newspapers. LIBRARY LOCATION: Libraries often shelve periodicals in a special place in the library and tend to keep current issues only. Less current articles are available online from subscription databases.
