We’re from beauty
Light skin, full lips, bangin’ smile
Long hair, permed hair, manicured toes and nails
Beautiful is the next Paris, Jessica, Lindsay
Beyonce’s hips, J. Lo’s behind, sexy as we know
Where I’m from, my beauty culminates from my roots, forget the follicles
My roots
My history
My people
I’m not suppressed by the ideal
I form my own judgement, my own style, my own beauty, beauty, beauty
I’m from beauty
My beauty’s from my roots
My African kings and queens
Kings and queens forced to shed blood and tears for a people who regarded them with the
Utmost hate
A hate still here, a hate still present
A hate I once felt for myself
It was inside myself that drove me away, away from my roots
My history
My people
Where I’m from
Beauty is your heritage, my heritage
No escape, no escaping, a ball and chain
A chain hat took my heritage and pushed it overboard to lighten those ships
The slave ship of oppression
I’m from “Embrace the beauty”
“Know who you are”
“Who you want to be”
“Who you want to be”
“Who you’re destined to be”
For I’m the forgotten African princess
Left to surive on unknown lands
Uncharted territories
Now that’s what I call beauty
I
Am
Beautiful
