Otisia   Walker

My name is otisia Walker. I was given this name because the doctors told my mother that I was going to be a boy. She was going to name me after my father. My father’s name is Otis Walker jr. when it came time for me to be born they were surprised because I came out a girl. My mother was so upset because she did not have a girl name picked out. So my mother and grandmother decided to just add an “I “and an “a” to Otis. When I was growing up I always had to spell my name for people. At school the kids would all ways call me Otis or they would say that I had an African name. The old people said that I had an old fashion name. People never really were that mean to me, but they did always ask me questions about it and how were she got it from. I remember this one time this teacher thought that I was lying about my name and she called my house to see if I was telling the truth. From that point on I always said that I was going to change my name to a name that a lot of people have, but my grandmother had told me that if I was like every body else than it was going to be hard to make people see that I was different from every body else. She said that with my name I stood out and was different and that some people liked different. So now I’ve learned to like my name and to understand the difference that it has. Some people may say that I should change it but I will keep it the same. I had it for this long so I won’t hurt to have it a couple more years.
