Student Profiles : Brittani

My name is Brittani and I’m fifteen years old. I live in West Philadelphia and I have the privilege to attend The Episcopal Academy, a private school, located in Merion, Pennsylvania. Since kindergarten, I’ve been inspired by the movements and rhythms of music and dance. Ballet is my main style but I’ve branched of to hip-hop, jazz, and modern dance in recent years. Dance is what keeps me fit, energized, and alive. My love for music comes from dance because with dance you need music. Ironically, I can’t stand the classical music I hear every ballet rehearsal. Instead, I listen to R&B. Like country music, R&B tells stories about life, love and relationships, things I can relate to. My other choice of music is gospel. I’m a proud and active member of Mount Caramel Baptist Church and gospel is an inspiring medium to express your feelings and faith.
Like any other teenager girl, I love to watch movies, shop, talk on the phone with my best friend Vivian, and communicate with friends on Facebook. I love doing all these things but most of all I like to read. My favorite books include: Caucasia, The Feast of All Saints, The Notebook, The Da Vinci Code, and Roots. On the other hand, I strongly dislike, as opposed to hate, homework and coming home after a fun night with friends. Another thing I don’t like is when people act knowledgeable about subjects they think they know about. It shows ignorance and disrespect and that is something I don’t have time for.
Important characteristics that I believe I have are my motivation to have fun, and my creativity with the right motivation. I also have the ability to look on the bright side of things and don’t let ignorant people affect my day or outlook on life. I believe that I am fun and easy to get along with. I try to be real to myself and others no matter what the repercussions may be. This makes me a strong and unique individual.
