Student Profiles : Angelique

Hi, I’m Angeliqué Israel.
I’m a senior at The Episcopal Academy and will be attending The George Washington University in the fall of this year. I’m originally from St. Vincent & the Grenadines, but I’ve lived in places like Camden, NJ, Memphis, TN, and of course Philadelphia, PA. Being the epitome of diversity, I like to surround myself with people who can tell their own unique stories as well. I was raised to not see color, so I embrace (or try to) people of all colors, cultures, and everything else. In my eyes beauty is beauty, no matter what form it comes in. I’m the kind of person that you’d either really like or strongly dislike (I like to think I have more friends than enemies). I’ve been learning Spanish in school since the second grade, and I’m nearly fluent. When I speak to people, I look into their eyes because it allows me to completely focus, as well as see into the person and what they’re saying. I’m 5’9” and considerably taller than the majority of my friends, but I don’t care. I’m not your average seventeen year old. Besides being from the Caribbean, I spend most of my weekends with an organization through the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania called Diocesan Youth Council, of which I serve as Chair. Youth Council puts on various programs for youth in the Philadelphia metropolitan area which include involvement in an adult-driven Church, community service opportunities, and a great deal of social events. I have two younger siblings, who I love dearly. Another hobby of mine is music. I have been playing the piano since the age of four and singing since about the age of 5. I also love writing. I feel that it gives me an avenue through which I can express myself fully without much interruption. It allows me to interpret the world as I see it before me, as well as put into words the sights and feelings of being a teen. I’m a very spiritual person, partly because my dad is an Episcopal minister in this diocese. I live life to the fullest because I feel that if I sit by and watch life pass me by, then what is my purpose? I think I was put on this earth to be a catalyst for change, and through my day-to-day I do what I can to fulfill my purpose.
