Text Box: The other day in school we where having a discussion and a boy in my class stated that you don’t need a work ethic in order to get somewhere in life. Later talking to him, I found out that he lived with his mother a single parent. His father stays in and out of jail and is never really around to teach him anything. That really made me think that without a father, boys don’t learn what it is to take care of there family unit. My teacher (who is white) could have easily made a stereotype based on that all young men feel that they need no work ethic in order to succeed.
But that is only one boy. I live with both parents and having a father can really impact your view on how a family unit is supposed to be. When I look for a husband (a long time from now) I will look for a man like my father. That can really impact young girls too. If a young girl she sees her father beat up her mother then she will look for a man that beats her. That’s no true all the time but most of the time.
The worst stereotypes for the black race is that black men don’t take care of there children. There is a logically reason for why SOME black men don’t take care of there children. The black family unit has been broken down to where the mother is the enforcer and father is what they call the “wife”. Black men have troubles with being the leaders of there households. Women control the household by telling themselves that they don’t need a man to take care of them. In the Bible Adam ran the garden and Eve was too look out for Adam. But as you can see women need to build up the men instead of breaking them down.
This is where I take it back to slavery days. Back to a man named Willy Lynch Text Box: who made it his business to break down the slave family. He would tell slave owners that in order to make the women dependent on the slave master they had to take away the black man. So they would sale the black man and make the women teach her son that they were inferior to the white man. This in turn, makes the women think they she does not need the black man.
People that come up with stereotypes usually see one person do one thing and they generalize that all the people in that group do that one thing. They see one black man or a few black men on the corner selling drugs and they make a though in there mind that all black men sell drugs. They see one black woman cooking soul food and they make the decision that all Daddy's Home!
