Alumni Society

The Alumni Society is an independent association currently comprised of approximately 4,600 graduates from EA.  Its purpose is to represent alumni; to help connect members to each other, to classmates, and to the school; and to insure alumni interests are represented within the EA Community.

Its roots go back to 1785 and thus it is thought to be the oldest Society in the Inter-Ac League, if not the Delaware Valley.  It originated Alumni Prizes in Greek, Latin, English and Math, precursors to the present day Alumni Prizes.  Although dues were originally required in order to be a member, this is no longer the case.

There is a Board of Managers of 16-18 who are elected by the Society’s members to a three year term each or appointed to fill a vacancy during a term.  Generally, 1/3 of the Board runs for election every year; thereby providing continuity.  The Board has officers currently consisting of the President, two Vice-Presidents, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.

A letter from  Edward L. Jones III
President, Alumni Society Board of Managers

October 12, 2011

Dear Alumni:

I hope this letter finds everyone well. On behalf of the Episcopal Alumni Society Board of Managers, I would like to express how honored we are to represent you, the E.A. alumni, as your alumni board. We are thrilled to announce some exciting updates affecting the alumni society this year.

Making Adjustments and Setting Goals
Recently, the Alumni Board made a few changes to its mission and scope of work to better serve alums. To ensure that all alumni remain connected to one another, the school and the community, we’ve set the following goals for the upcoming school year:

  • Increase the number of alumni who are involved at EA
  • Advise the alumni office on ways to enhance communication with our alumni
  • Enhance communication between the Alumni Board and the Board of Trustees
Modifying the Role of Class Agents

One immediate way the Alumni Board can enhance communication between the school and alumni, as well as among the alumni themselves, is to enhance the role of class agents—representatives from each alumni class who act as liaisons between the school and alumni. Moving forward, class agents will serve a communications function ensuring that classmates are informed about the various Episcopal events. The alumni office will publish news updates and event information for class agents to forward to their classmates via email and/or standard mail.

Come Back to Campus
There are a number of events and opportunities throughout the year to encourage alums to come back to campus.Career Day, for example, is a great tradition where alums speak to seniors about career paths. If you have a personal story to share, I am sure the alumni office would love to have you speak at Career Day.And EA/Haverford/AIS Weekend is just around the corner, November 11-12.This is always a fun weekend and a great chance to re-connect with EA.

Stay in Touch
As always, the Alumni Board wants to hear your thoughts, ideas, concerns—whatever it may be. If you would like to become more connected with EA as alumni, please reach out to me or Bruce Konopka in the Alumni Office. We would love to get you reacquainted with the school. And, if you have a chance, take a trip to campus for a football, field hockey or soccer game—they’re a great way to reconnect with the EA community.

I hope to see you on campus soon.

Sincerely,

Edward L. Jones, III
President, Alumni Society Board of Managers

P.S. Recently, Loyd Pakradoni helped put together our Coffee Table Book to honor EA’s past and celebrate the completion of the new campus rebuild. The book offers great insight into all-things Episcopal, both past and present. For more information or to order a copy, click here.
